Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Storm Relief - Emergency Assistance A project of SOUTH DAKOTA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

$35,000 in 1:1 matching funds from the Bush Foundation and the Northwest Area Foundation for the Cheyenne River ice storm relief efforts

TOTAL FUNDS RAISED TO DATE INCLUDING OFFLINE GIFTS OVER $198,000 - THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR GENEROSITY TO DATE!

The need for assistance on the Cheyenne River Reservation grows each day as the temperature continues to drop well below freezing. After suffering devastating ice-related storms over the weekend of January 22, 2010, electricity and water have been non-existent or scarce. Over 2,500 utility poles are currently on the ground in this remote, rural area. Power has been out in several communities and for thousands of residents for several days. Below zero temperatures and no electricity, heat, water or gasoline has created devastating results.

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is working to provide emergency services and meet the needs of area residents. Through the establishment of shelters with emergency power generators, the most vunerable have options, but there are thousands of residents suffering through the cold and scarcity in substandard housing.

The South Dakota Community Foundation, with a generous 35,000 dollar-for-dollar match from the Bush Foundation and the Northwest Area Foundation, is accepting donations on behalf of the Cheyenne Rive Sioux Tribe. Now is the time to step up and help South Dakotans in need. We encourage you to consider a contribution while these matching funds are available to us.

If you would like to make contributions of clothing and other non-cash gifts, please mail such items to: Wakpa Sica 709 Ft. Chouteau Road Ft. Pierre, SD 57532 605-223-9099 To learn more about the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and their recovery efforts please visit their website at www.sioux.org/English/CRST_2010_Disaster_Relief.php

 Urgent Humanitarian
Help Needed

Two weeks after the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation was hit with a devastating winter storm that took down some 3000 utility poles and damaging the water treatment plant, thousands of residents are still with out electricity, running water and heat.

Bill Boswell will be leaving February 17 th from Georgetown, Ohio heading to the Cheyenne River Reservation then heading north to the Standing Rock Reservation to deliver needed emergency supplies. We will be delivering such items as coats, blanket, batteries, drinking water, hygiene products and other supplies that are urgently needed.

Once all the supplies are delivered to the two destinations, I will be staying 3 to 5 weeks to do voluntary work where needed, particularly making sure our elders are taking care of and safe.

I will be taking my truck along with a 16 foot box trailer both loaded with supplies. We are still excepting supplies, but we are in much need of monetary donations to help cover expenses for the trip out and back and 3 to 5 weeks of being there. We are looking at a budget of $900.00 to cover fuel and hotel stay for 3 nights. It is a 2 day trip out and 2 day trip back covering 2600 miles considering we don't get stuck in any bad weather on the trip out or back.Any help with this Urgent trip to Help out a much needed people would be greatly appreciated.Any amount above the budget amount will be donated to the Emergency Disaster Relief Fund on these two Reservations.

Please contact Bill Boswell at (513)702-4064 or at wamblii13@yahoo.com
