Anpo O Project: Clothing and School Supply Drive...
Hello Friends and Relatives,
Tomorrow begins the final week before we head to South Dakota. Our plan is to leave on Saturday morning, August 14, 2010 around 8:00 am. I'm with hopes that we can fill two 24 ft. Ryder Trucks by this Friday. People have been contacting me asking what is needed most, clothing, school supplies or money. This year my response has been something new most haven't heard before. We are in need of the generosity of caring people. As of Sunday we had maybe enough to fill 1/3 of one truck.
I've been worried whether or not we'll have enough but after several nights of prayer I realized that the need is just as dire here. Just my thought, if the people here are in need then I understand why so many calls wanting to know when we are coming.
Those close to me have been telling me to let the people know the need. I've been hesitant cause I want to stress the need for a better tomorrow is education, the end of poverty is education, the end to hunger is education. The end to these social afflictions is the education of all those who are caring to work for a better tomorrow for all people. The survival of Indian people lies in the education of our children both here and there. And, the fact that someone cares...
The statistical information hasn't changed much over the years. The areas we go to unemployment runs between 80% to 92%, the annual income per family is $4,200, the drop out rate is 74% and teenage suicide is 5 times higher than the national average.
We, you and me can change the lives of so many with a box of crayons, a pair of pants, paper and pencil, a nice shirt....know what I mean.
I'll be in the parking lot of SunWatch Indian Village everyday this week from 10:00 am till I'm done for the day.
If you know someone who cares please forward this message on.....
