Subject: Mt Graham (Action Alert)

THREE IMPORTANT EVENTS THIS WEEK

MOUNT GRAHAM DEBATE Tuesday, September 24 at 7:30 PM Architecture Building
(Rapson Hall), Room 30 89 Church St. SE

Watch University of Minnesota Parliamentary Debate Society members battle
it out over the controversial Mount Graham telescope project issue!

Should the University of Minnesota buy into a project that desecrates a
sacred mountain to Western Apaches and destroys endangered species?

Find out why University of Minnesota Advisory Committees, faculty, and
students are speaking out strongly against the proposed $5 million
investment in the telescope.

The University of Minnesota will decide on this issue in the coming weeks.

Get informed about this major University policy issue. TEACH-IN ON MOUNT
GRAHAM Thursday, September 26 at NOON 710 Social Sciences Tower (Ford Room)

Come hear Sandra Rambler, former Tribal Secretary for the San Carlos
Apache Nation and journalist for The Moccasin, a San Carlos newspaper,
talk about the struggle to protect Mount Graham. Rambler has come from San
Carlos to tell the University of Minnesota that the mountain and Apache
culture and religion are not for sale. She will speak about Minnesota's
efforts to buy into the Mount Graham telescope project. A decision is
coming in the next few weeks. We need everyone to help now.

MOUNT GRAHAM PLANNING MEETING Thursday, September 26 at 4:00 PM Fraser
Hall, Room 33

Please bring your ideas and suggestions. More importantly, please come
ready to do something. Call Dwight at 612-386-2829 for more information.

HAS YOUR VOICE BEEN HEARD ON THIS ISSUE? The University of Minnesota
administration will decide by October 1 if they will seek approval from
the Board of Regents for the Mount Graham telescope project. As always:
Please contact Interim President Bruininks and the Board of Regents to
voice your concerns about the University of Minnesota's involvement in the
